"I challenge each of you to further my mother's work and vision — reach out to a person with intellectual disabilities who every day is looking for hope, love and opportunity."

TIMOTHY SHRIVER, CHAIRMAN, SPECIAL OLYMPICS

  • Become a Coach

Coaches play a unique and indispensable role in Special Olympics Idaho. Coaches provide sport skills and spirit that define a true athlete. Coaches are role models and character builders. In addition, coaches obtain necessary facilities and equipment for training, assist athletes in learning sports skills and applying them in competition, and maintain their own coaches certification with Special Olympics Idaho.

  • Manage a Team

The Local Program Management Team is essential in overseeing and organizing local teams. From event organizing, communication, fundraising and outreach, the Local Program Management Team makes it possible for Idaho athletes to have the support necessary to succeed in trainings and competitions. Management Teams work collaboratively with the State Chapter to build the mission of Special Olympics Idaho in local communities.

  • Volunteer as a Group

Volunteer together with your corporate, civic or community group at an upcoming event or competition. Groups can volunteer at specific venues and events in roles such as scorekeepers, timers, and awarding athletes. This is a great way for your group to give back to the community, while also supporting and engaging with some of Idaho’s most courageous athletes.

  • Volunteer for the Day

Whatever you interests, talents, background and availability, there are volunteer opportunities for you at Special Olympics Idaho. Event specific volunteering is a great opportunity for individuals or families to volunteer and gift their time, talents and skills for the day. We’re confident once you start volunteering with Special Olympics, you will be come a regular at our athlete events!

Next Steps…

Background Check: Once we receive your completed Volunteer Application, all adult volunteers, over the age of 18, must complete and clear a background check through our vendor, Sterling Volunteers. Volunteers will receive an email from Sterling Volunteers inviting them to begin the background check process through their secured online portal.

Protective Behaviors Training: All adult volunteers will complete the Protective Behaviors training. This is an orientation for volunteers to learn how to keep themselves and Special Olympics athletes safe from risk and abuse. Managing risk and ensuring the safety of all Special Olympics Idaho athletes and participants is our number one priority.
